#005 – 30th May – Departure Day

9.37am – So, after a false start yesterday, we’re setting-off on our Cornwall adventure today. I’m sitting with a cup of coffee, surrounded by tons and tons of stuff that I need to load into the car shortly – I now wish I’d done some of it last night instead of being so lazy! However, the weather is perfect today and it should take about three hours to get to Tewkesbury once we’ve picked-up the caravan. Now, to load the car….

2.05pm – We’re at Tamworth Services now having travelled about half of today’s journey so far. The weather is very hot, but the car’s air conditioning is keeping us very comfortable. We had no difficulty picking-up the caravan at Sherwood and left the storage site at exactly 12 noon. Normally, we’d have got to Tamworth quicker than we have today, but we’ve had to endure two or three traffic jams enroute to here today. Hopefully, the rest of the journey to Tewkesbury will be clear.

All good so far…

4.38pm – We’ve arrived and set everything up. What a magnificent site this one is: Tewkesbury Abbey. I rather think we’ll be staying here quite a few times. Sadly, of course, because of our departure a day late, we’re now only stopping here one night on our way to Cornwall. However, we’re booked-in again for two nights on our way home.

Ice-cold Guinness and a fan. What else would I need?

9.02pm – It has been a lovely, sunny evening here and there are birds singing in all the trees around us. I’ve a feeling they’re going to wake us early tomorrow, but that won’t be too bad as we’re on holiday now, so whoopee!

We had fish and chips from the Kingfisher chip shop which were very good and meant that we had a very easy evening with no cooking and virtually no washing-up.

Helen went for a little walk around the campsite and got invited into some random bloke’s motorhome to admire it! Apparently his wife was there too, so everything was above board! On the way back she took a fabulous image of Tewkesbury Abbey which is right next to the campsite.

A cracking photo Helen.

10.35pm – As with all caravan parks at this time of night, it’s extremely quiet here now. Thankfully, it has cooled right down so I’m fairly sure Helen and I will sleep well tonight. We’re not in any great rush to get away from here tomorrow morning to head down to our second caravan site at Waterrow, near Taunton. It’s only 102 miles, but the M5 near Bristol is notoriously busy whenever we’ve been there previously. Hopefully, the traffic will be kind tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
