#008 – 4th Jun – Boscastle

4.56pm – Well, we’ve been at Trewetthet Farm since Tuesday afternoon and the wind has yet to drop enough to allow us to put up our awning. Between the howling gales and torrential rain through the night we’re reduced to keeping a close eye on the weather forecasts looking for any sign of improvement.

Breakfast time in the van this morning.

This afternoon we’ve been to Boscastle which is only about two miles away. On several of the buildings there were flood indicators showing how much of the village was submerged in the terrible floods of 2004 and 2007. All of the flood level indicators were well above my head height. As a result, many of the buildings had to be rebuilt and, consequently, have beautiful freshly-painted facades.

The YHA building here was mostly submerged in the floods
All of these buildings were flooded to around 8 feet of water. That’s astonishing.
