Caravan Travels

11.40pm – Given that the weather is rather poor this morning we’ve had a late start. We both slept well, however, and nothing disturbed us in the night. Our pitch on this campsite at Looe is at the bottom of the hill and we have trees and bushes behind us which offer good shelter. In other words, it’s a far cry from the pitch we had at Trewetthet Farm, exposed on the top of a cliff! We do miss that fabulous view though!

I’m not sure what we’re going to be doing today. Helen is currently being very domestic, thoroughly cleaning everything in the caravan whilst I’m being totally lazy – stretched out on my sofa blogging about it!

If the weather improves any I’ll be putting up our awning, but I can’t say I’m very keen whilst it’s drizzling outside. This caravan park has its own open-air swimming pool which Helen and Jacquie are going to use at midday, so that might be the time for me to get the awning up. I’ll feel guilty if I don’t.

2.53pm – Hooray, our awning is up! I just managed to get it all attached to the caravan awning track, inflated and pegged-down before the rain came on. Putting down the carpets, setting up tables, chairs, candelabras, pool table etc inside can be all be done irrespective of the weather outside!

The hardest part of putting up any awning on a ‘hard-standing’ pitch like we’re on here is getting the pegs into the ground. The best way is to use drill pegs with a cordless hand drill. It can still be extremely difficult though depending on how hard the ground is. For this trip I ‘bit the bullet’ and invested in some German-made ‘Peggy-pegs’ which are advertised as the toughest pegs on the market. It was a risk as it was nearly £60 for four of them. However, I’m delighted to announce that they really do work. I used one on each of the four corners of the awning and they went in with almost no fuss at all. Unfortunately, about sixteen pegs are needed in total to secure the awning, but having the four corners done with the strong pegs is much better. I’m thinking I might buy four more, but that’ll have to do!

Needless to say, of course, in the absence of any beautiful Cornish Village or beach pics today, I’m in need of something else to blog about!

9.36pm – We’ve had a trip to a pub in Looe to take part in a quiz. Annoyingly, we came second. I say annoyingly because we lost by 1 point having changed two right answers for wrong ones! Grrr!!

We’re back at the caravan now having a consolation cup of tea!! Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow.
