#022 – 18th Jun – Mevagissey and Fowey

1.22pm – After another misty/foggy start the sun is finally trying to get through. We’ve had brunch at the caravan with Jacquie and Garry and are just getting around to preparing to get out this afternoon. We’re going to drive to Mevagissey which is about an hour away. Hopefully, we’ll also be able to visit Fowey on the way back if time allows.

A view down to our caravan

When I was about eight or nine years old I had a jigsaw puzzle of Mevagissey harbour. As a little boy growing up in North-East Scotland, places in Cornwall sounded exotically far-away and I thought I’d probably never travel so far. Some thirty years or so ago now I was on a family holiday and staying in Plymouth for a few days. Whilst staying there we drove to Mevagissey for a few hours one day, and I was glad to see that it was just like my jigsaw (not surprisingly!). I’m very much looking forward to seeing it again today too; I well-remember how good the ice-cream and Cornish pasties were!
