Caravan Travels

12.02pm – I was up early this morning to pack-up everything in our awning and dismantle the awning itself before the day gets too hot to do anything very much.

I’m currently relaxing in a chair in the shade of the caravan feeling relieved that everything is done now.

We’re not sure what our plans are for the rest of the day, but we may go back to Polperro to see it in the sunshine.

1.22pm – After all those days and days of coping with rotten weather, we’re now working-out how best to deal with the heatwave we’re currently experiencing! Our plan was to leave here early tomorrow and head-up to Tewkesbury for three nights on our way home. However, the forecast for Tewkesbury for tomorrow and Wednesday is threatening to get up to 40 degrees Celsius. Currently, we’re thinking we should extend our stay here for a further night where it’s due to be a bit cooler and drive up Nort pool on Wednesday instead. Helen is has just headed-up to reception to try to sort it out. Ideally, we’d stay on our current pitch which is fully-serviced. However, if we have to vacate this pitch because it’s already booked it won’t be too much hassle to move to a non-servicedp pop one for one night. We’ll probably get a better night’s sleep if it’s cooler here by the coast.

3.08pm – We’re back in Polperro again having come in with Jacquie and Garry. The sky is cloudy and we’ve already had some light rain but at least there’s no fog like last time. It feels very muggy and potentially thundery, so we’re looking for somewhere to eat indoors. What a roller-coaster we’ve been on weather-wise throughout this holiday!

4.09pm – We’re currently in The Three Pilchards – the oldest pub in Polperro. We’ve found that most places in Cornwall stop serving food at 3pm. Fortunately for us, this pub is one of the exceptions to that rule and the food we had was excellent – I had a delicious fish pie (huge portion!) whilst Helen had haddock bonbons, battered squid and halloumi fries (three small plates which she shared with Jacquie).

Looking out of the windows we can see that the rain seems to have completely passed over by this point and so we can probably risk leaving the pub now!

5.12pm – We’re back at the caravan again now having just made a quick stop at the Co-op in Looe to buy milk and bottles of water. (We’re probably going to need a lot more drinking water in the next few days of this heatwave!).

It was a pity we still didn’t see Polperro in the sunshine, but it is a most impressive place to visit irrespective of the weather and we’re very glad to have seen a bit more of the village. It really has a very atmospheric smuggler/pirate vibe big-time!

PS. We managed to get another night here at Looe Club Campsite without having to move pitches. Now we’ll be leaving here on Wednesday, 24th June.
