Caravan Travels

10.59 – On another hot day at Looe I’m currently hunkered-down with all our fans turned-on and pointed straight at me! Helen has gone for a swim with Jacquie and I may go for a dip again myself later-on. The only reason I might not is that, whilst the pool is deliciously cool, getting out and returning to the full heat of the day is like a form of torture!

Today is definitely our last day here at Looe – no more extensions after this, and we’re travelling up to Tewkesbury on the very hottest day of this heatwave. Just looking at the forecast tells me it’ll top-out around 25 degrees Celsius here today, but 35 at Tewkesbury tomorrow. I may just melt away to a greasy stain on the ground!

I didn’t leave the campsite at all yesterday (Helen had a brief trip to Looe), so will be keen to do so today. We’re very conscious of the fact that there are some lovely beaches here which we’ve not visited yet. Hopefully, this will be the day.

4.46pm – We’ve not done a lot so far today! Helen has sorted a few things out in the caravan in advance of our departure tomorrow morning and we’ve been for a drive to the main dual carriageway we’ll be taking tomorrow just to have a look at our exit route to it on the narrow A and B class roads near the campsite.

There are a number of external caravan jobs I want to do this evening after we’ve been out a final time and the weather has cooled a bit. First, putting on the front travel cover will save time in the morning, as will removing our hitch-lock and ALKO wheel lock. (These last two devices prevent the caravan being stolen. We’re assuming that’s rather unlikely whilst we’re sleeping in it tonight!).

In the morning then, it’s just the mains services (electricity, water and chemical toilet) to pack-away and Garry and Jacquie’s sun canopy which they have insisted we borrow for use at Tewkesbury from tomorrow. (Garry and Jacquie’s departure from here isn’t until the weekend so this is our last evening together for this holiday). As the temperature is due to be as warm as 22 degrees Celsius here from around 7am in the morning, we don’t want to have too many jobs to do before we drive 178 miles to Tewkesbury.

5.40pm – After much debate about what to eat this evening, we’ve decided to visit a pub called The Smuggler’s Inn at Seaton Sands this evening. Finally, Helen and I will get to visit one of the local beaches!

9.28pm – It has finally cooled down to a manageable degree. After coming back from the pub we dismantled Garry’s roll-out roof awning, installed the front travel cover and I removed the security devices. All of these jobs should allow us to get an early start up the road tomorrow. The earlier we get to Tewkesbury the better, I think. If we can get there soon after 1pm we may be all set-up before the worst of the heat.
