#029 – 25th Jun – Moving Day

9.08am – We’re up and just having breakfast prior to departing from Looe. It’ll was warm through the night but Helen and I both did ok for sleep. It’s with heavy hearts that we prepare to leave not only this beautiful campsite, but Cornwall itself. We’ve had a very mixed experience with the weather, but we’ve been to some really great places and really enjoyed it. Some particular highlights we’ll treasure were our time at the Minack Theatre, Tintagel Castle. visiting Land’s End for the amazing sunset, the Falmouth Shanty Festival and seeing Fowey, Looe, Mousehole and Polperro.

12.15pm – After a very successful getaway we’ve stopped at Taunton Deane services on the M5. It’s 33 degrees Celsius outside and due to be a bit hotter-still at Tewkesbury. We’ve about 90 miles to go so that’s about the halfway mark on this journey. The campsite at Tewkesbury is only about 2-3 miles off the M5 so it should be a straightforward run so long as we don’t have any traffic issues on the M5.

5.01pm – Helen and I successfully arrived at Tewkesbury Abbey Clubsite at around 3pm. After setting everything up we’re sitting outside in the shade of the caravan enjoying a bit of a breeze that is blowing. On the way up we were monitoring the outside temperature as recorded on the car’s dashboard. For some of the journey it was registering 36 degrees Celsius.

It’s still very warm at 8pm. I really, really need a shower!

8.02pm – Helen and I have just returned to the caravan after being out for some food at the ‘Smokingly Good Texas BBQ’ restaurant. The food was really delicious and the owner invited us into his kitchen to see all tomorrow’s brisket and pork joints slow-cooking! His wife was complaining that the temperature in the kitchen was over 46 degrees – it certainly felt like it!
